Apgar Bike Trail — Glacier National Park

Overview

The Apgar Bike Trail, also known as the Apgar Bike Path, is a flat, paved multi-use route connecting the Glacier National Park headquarters (just inside the west entrance) to Apgar Village at the southern end of Lake McDonald. At approximately 1.7 miles one-way, this peaceful path is ideal for cycling, walking, jogging, and is even stroller- and wheelchair-friendly.

Highlights & Scenery

  • Winds through a lodgepole pine forest, with seasonal sights like blooming beargrass in early summer and ripe huckleberries in late summer.
  • Wildlife sightings may include deer, squirrels, and occasionally black bears—so stay alert.
  • Midway, a short spur leads to an overlook of McDonald Creek’s Oxbow, a scenic spot to take a break.
  • Accessible trailheads at both Apgar Village (near the Backcountry Permit Office) and Park Headquarters on Mather Drive.

Trail Experience

Perfect for all ages and skill levels, the Apgar Bike Trail offers a safe, family-friendly route away from vehicle traffic. You will cross three roads and one equestrian path—so yield appropriately and watch for horses, cars, and other cyclists.
